✨ Best Way to Create a New Character

Recommended Character Creation Workflow

For the smoothest character creation experience, follow these steps in order:

  1. Start with Character Information - Enter your character's basic details like name and background
  2. Class and Race - Select your character's class(es) and race to establish their foundation
  3. Roll for Stats in the Digital Dice Roller - Use the Roller tab to generate your ability scores
  4. Add Description and Backstory in Traits - Fill out your character's personality, appearance, and history
  5. Add a Portrait - Upload an image to bring your character to life visually
💡 Why This Order? Following this sequence ensures that class and race features automatically populate before you finalize your character's details and appearance!

Basic Character Information

Character Information Section:
  • Name: Your character's name
  • Race: Select from standard D&D races (Human, Elf, Dwarf, etc.) or choose "Other (Custom)" for homebrew races
  • Custom Race: When "Other (Custom)" is selected, enter your homebrew race name in the text field
  • Subrace: Appears when you select a race with subraces (like High Elf, Hill Dwarf)
  • Background: Choose your character's background (Acolyte - SRD) or "Other (Custom)" for homebrew backgrounds
⚠️ Important: Custom/homebrew races require manual entry of ability score bonuses. Standard SRD races automatically apply bonuses in the Roller tab.
Classes Section:
  • Add Classes: Click "+ Add Class" for multiclassing
  • Set Levels: Use the level dropdown for each class
  • Remove Classes: Click the "Remove" button
  • Subclasses: Automatically appear when you reach the required level
Ability Scores:
  • Enter your STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA scores
  • Modifiers calculate automatically
  • Saving throws show proficiency bonuses based on your class

Character Personality & Status

Death Saves:
  • When you drop to 0 HP, make death saving throws
  • Check boxes for successes (✓) and failures (✗)
  • 3 successes = stabilized, 3 failures = dead
  • Reset all checkboxes when you regain HP
Inspiration:
  • Check the box when your DM awards inspiration
  • Use inspiration to gain advantage on a roll
  • Uncheck after using it
Alignment & Appearance:
  • Choose alignment (Lawful Good, Chaotic Neutral, etc.)
  • Fill in physical characteristics (age, height, weight, eyes, skin, hair)
Backstory:
  • Write your character's history and motivations
  • This appears on the Summary tab for easy reference

Manual Feature Entry:
  • Class Features: Enter your class features based on your class and level
  • Race Features: Standard SRD races display their features above the text box for reference. Copy them or enter your own custom features.
  • Background Features: Enter your background's special features
  • Use bullet points (•) for easy reading and organization
Skill Proficiencies:
  • See all skills with proficiency bonuses calculated
  • Proficient skills are highlighted
  • Expertise doubles the proficiency bonus
Class Resources:
  • Track limited-use abilities (Rage, Channel Divinity, etc.)
  • Click "Use" to mark a resource as used
  • Click "Reset All" for a long rest

Physical Die Mode:
  • For when you're rolling real dice

  • Quick checks (Perception, Stealth, Initiative) are one-click

Uploading a Portrait:
  1. Click "📷 Upload Portrait"
  2. Choose an image file from your device
